diy free people turban

While browsing the Free People website I saw this beautiful turban. A similar one can be made by simply braiding men's ties together. There is a minimal amount of sewing involved (a sewing machine is helpful but not necessary) This project is great for beginners and takes little time to make.
Supplies-
  • 6 men's ties (I paid $5 for 6 ties at a local thrift store)
  • old necklace and/or brooches to decorate
  • needle and thread
[Take 3 of the ties and sew them together at the thin end]
[Braid the ties. I made mine 22 1/2 long. It needs to be long enough to wrap once around your head. The ends need to be able to overlap]
[Once the braid is long enough stitch a line to prevent it from unraveling. Cut off the excess length of tie below your stitch line]
[Repeat these steps with the other 3 ties]
[Sew the ends of the braids together. Don't worry if your stitching looks sloppy. This part gets covered up]
[Cut off a 6 inch strip from one of the leftover ties. Wrap it around the middle where the ties connect and sew it in place on the inside of the turban. Finish off by sewing on an old necklace or attaching some brooches]

  1. That is amazing! I am totally gonna try it! Honestly, who would pay $288 for it? It's not like it's something you would wear on a daily basis...some people have way too much money...
