diy maison martin margiela plated copper necklace

This DIY is inspired by Maison Martin Margiela Plated Copper Necklace. Oven bake clay and gold leaf are used to created the gold nugget effect. The total for this was around $15...$655 less than the Margiela version!

Supplies:
  • Oven bake clay (1 small package)
  • Gold leaf
  • Gold leaf adhesive and sealer
  • Satin ribbon necklace (available in the jewelry supply section of most craft stores)

[Take the clay and mould it into a shape resembling a rock]

[Using the non-serrated edge of a butter knife, create ridges and texture on the clay]

[Using a pencil, poke hole through the top of the clay]

[Pinch parts of the clay to give it a more rough appearance. Following the directions on the package, bake the clay in the oven and let cool]

[Brush on the gold leaf adhesive on the front and sides and wait for it to become tacky- read the drying time on the bottle.]
[Place the gold leaf over the clay and allow to dry. Repeat adhesive and leafing process to the back. Finish with sealer and string the pendant through the necklace]
