diy oxidized copper painting

Since I moved into my new house last May I've done a considerable amount of decorating/upgrades including painting every room. The one area that still looks really unfinished are the walls. I decided to DIY a painting for my living room to brighten things up and tie in the decor. The inspiration for this painting came from oxidized copper. I love the colorful patina that's created when metal is exposed to the elements. When I was finished I used screw back spikes (pierced right through the canvas) to mimic the look of rivets. I'm really happy with the way this painting turned out and I can't wait to try my hand at some others!
Here are some tips to help you create your own painting-
  • Look at some pictures online of metal oxidation and get an idea of what you'd like to make (colors, placement of oxidation, etc). Use your online picture as a guide when you paint
  • Play around with the sponges. A slightly damp sponge will give the paint a different appearance than a dry sponge
  • Blending is key! The color is worked up in layers. If you're unhappy with a certain area, just wipe the paint off and try again.
  • Use an awl to pierce holes in the canvas before screwing in the spikes. It will make the process a lot easier. (Note- since the canvas has a wood frame you will not be able to pierce through these areas. If you're adding spikes around the border- like I did- use Crazy Glue to attach the spike part)
  • Have fun!!!

It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's challenging to get that "perfect balance" bеtween usabіlity
and appearance. I must say that you've done a great job
with this. Iո addition, the blog loads very fast for
    me on Chrome. Excellent Blog!
