DIY Leather Repair & How to Make Leather Appliques
Today I teamed up with MastaPlasta to show you an amazing (and totally easy) way to repair leather. A while back, I caught this tote bag on the edge of a metal table and it made a big tear. I knew it was the perfect candidate to try out MastaPlasta's First Aid For Leather. In addition to repairing leather, MastaPlasta can also be used to create appliques. I decided to not only repair my bag but to add a geometric design to it as well.

MastaPlasta is easy to cut, so you can trim it down to fit any tear. I decided to go with a geometric design. Let me show you how easy it is to repair leather and create your own appliques using MastaPlasta:
Supplies needed:
MastaPlasta
Ruler
Pen
Sharp scissors
Damaged leather item

This is what the MastaPlasta looks like- how cute is the packaging? MastaPlasta isn't just for handbags! You can use it on couches, jackets, car upholstery, etc. It comes in a variety of sizes and colors.

Here's my ripped bag =( To begin, first clean the area you want to apply the patch to.

On the reverse side of the MastaPlasta use a ruler and pen to create your shape. Double check and make sure it's large enough to cover the damaged area.

Peel the backing off the Masta Plasta to reveal the adhesive.

Press down to secure. That's it! Easy, right? The Masta Plasta adhesive it is way stronger than any glue you'd use. I've tried using fabric glue on leather and it never held. This patch is secure and won't budge. Bonus- no drying time!

I cut of several more triangles to create a geometric pattern. I love the way this turned out! You can even use MastaPlasta to create cut out letters to personalize your bag.
